Watch ‘Scandal’ Star Bellamy Young Ponder WTF Fan Theories

Actress who portrays former FLOTUS Mellie Grant teases what’s to come, hopes for ‘Walking Dead’ crossover episode

In late January, Scandal returned for its sixth season with an explosive premiere that not only announced the winner of the Mellie Grant and Francisco Vargas’ presidential race but also ended with a shocking death. Bellamy Young, who plays Grant on the show, stopped by Rolling Stone to tackle speculation for the latest in our Fan Theory Exploder series.

First up was a theory that Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) would become pregnant with Jake’s baby during the new season. Young argues that the baby Olivia had aborted in the last season may have been Jake’s instead of belonging to her then-lover President Fitz. As for Young’s character, the next theory concerned Mellie’s relationship with Marcus, an associate of Olivia’s who was recently named the White House Press Secretary. The fan theory wondered if the interracial affair would be exposed to the media and therefore highlight racial tension in America. “Tune in next week,” Young said ominously.

More ridiculous fan theories include Olivia opening a store called “Pope Pourri” and President Francisco Vargas coming back from the dead to take revenge on Mellie after his mysterious murder after winning the election. One fan speculated that art would imitate life with President Cyrus taking over the POTUS Twitter account on the show.

The most intriguing idea, however, comes from a viewer who thinks that a deceased character may come back from the dead to seek revenge on Young’s character. “It’s a crossover, us and the zombie Walking Dead show,” she explains. “I get one of the amazing bats with the spikes on the end.”
