Watch PBS’ ‘Hamilton’s America’ Teaser featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda, Obama

30-second clip gives glimpse into documentary

PBS’ Hamilton’s America documentary premieres next month, and it may be the closest some people get to seeing (at least in snippets) the multiple Tony Award-winning Hamilton given its sold-out and in-demand status.

The 30-second teaser doesn’t leave much room for detail, but it does provide a glimpse into what can be expected in the documentary, which will explore the making of the Broadway mega-hit and the history behind it.

In the clip, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda discusses the musical’s quick rise to fame (“It opened on Tuesday and the world blew up,” he says). It features fans’ thoughts as well, including early supporter President Barack Obama, who tells Miranda, “When you told us, ‘I’m going to do a rap about Alexander Hamilton, we said, ‘Well, good luck with that.'” Jimmy Fallon makes an appearance and another fan compares Miranda to Shakespeare.

Scenes from the musical are also interspersed into the video, which showcases the original cast members. Several have departed since the documentary was filmed, including Miranda himself, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

PBS’ Hamilton’s America documentary premieres on October 21st at 9 p.m. ET.
