Watch Nick Offerman Drink Whiskey, Sit Silently by Fire for 45 Minutes

‘Parks and Recreation’ star bolsters stoic legend in epic non-performance for Lagavulin distillery

Nick Offerman does what he does best in a new holiday ad for Scotch distillery Lagavulin: Drink whiskey and sit silently by a roaring fire for 45 minutes.

The YouTube clip puts a surreal spin on the already odd phenomenon of lengthy yule log videos. Yet watching a fire on a computer is made infinitely more compelling when Offerman just stares contentedly into space from a giant leather chair, occasionally repositioning himself and — when things get really crazy — taking a slow sip from his glass.

Offerman’s non-performance is exceptional and a fitting extension of his stint as Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. As the legendary man once said, if he were stuck on a desert island and could only bring one thing, it would be silence.

The Yule Log clip marks Offerman’s latest collaboration with Lagavulin. The actor has appeared in several spots for the distillery, including one in which he performs an original ode to his favorite libation, “My Tales of Whisky.”
