The Late Show With Stephen Colbert is celebrating Hanukkah with a series of web exclusives – one for each of the Festival of Lights’ eight nights – and for the second night of the holiday, the host recruited Michelin star-rated chef and famed restaurateur Daniel Boulud to create his rendition of a renowned Jewish specialty, the jelly doughnut.
For his recipe, Boulud only uses the finest of ingredients: Entenmann’s Rich Frosted Donuts – a staple of any Jewish child’s diet – and a jar of grape jelly. After that, simply dip the donut into the jelly and that’s it, a traditional Jewish jelly doughnut. “Tune in next time, we’ll show you how to make a Hanukkah Capri Sun,” the proprietor of New York’s Daniel restaurant promises.
On the first night of Hanukkah, Colbert said in an introductory video, “Please stay tuned and join us for the next seven magical nights, when each evening, you’ll be visited by a new Hanukkah emissary, who will join you in celebrating the holiday. It’s kind of like A Christmas Carol, but without that ‘Ghost of Christmas Past’ garbage. That being said, I make no promise that you won’t be visited by other ghosts unrelated to Hanukkah. I don’t know what you’ve done in your life. You could be a terrible person.” Colbert then played a round of “battle dreidels.”
