Watch Jon Stewart Reveal End Date for ‘Daily Show’ Run

Show will go on hiatus before introducing Trevor Noah as new host

Jon Stewart revealed at the end of Monday night’s The Daily Show that his last episode as that program’s host – or the beginning of his career as a “non-host,” as Comedy Central calls it – will take place August 6th. “I mentioned to you that I would keep you up to date on any new information we had about the transition of the program,” Stewart told viewers. “We do have some specific information. My last Daily Show program will be August the 6th.”

“I will be wearing a suit; I will more than likely be showered. I’m sorry – I’ll be wearing overalls, and I won’t shower,” Stewart joked. “I hope that you will join us for that program.” Stewart also announced a contest where one viewer would win a pair of tickets to his final taping, including airfare and four-star hotel. All proceeds from the contest will benefit New York Collaborates for Autism and Night of Too Many Stars. Check out The Daily Show‘s Omaze for more details.

According to the New York Times, Comedy Central said that The Daily Show would go on hiatus following Stewart’s last show. The start date for new host Trevor Noah has not yet been scheduled.

In a recent interview, Stewart opened up about why he suddenly decided to leave The Daily Show after 17 years. His reasons ranged from a desire to spend more time with family to his frequent “moments of dissatisfaction” to not wanting to cover the 2016 presidential elections. Most importantly, leaving The Daily Show also meant that Stewart no longer had to watch CNN and Fox News on a daily basis.

“Watching these channels all day is incredibly depressing,” Stewart said. “I live in a constant state of depression. I think of us as turd miners. I put on my helmet, I go and mine turds, hopefully I don’t get turd lung disease.”
