Watch Jon Stewart Give Samantha Bee Emotional ‘Daily Show’ Send-Off

Host says farewell to “longest-serving member of The Best Fucking News Team” with hilarious clip montage

Veteran Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee knew her final show would be emotional. “Tonight a retrospective of my 12(!) years @TheDailyShow,” she tweeted on Thursday. “Prediction: my salty tears short circuit the NYC electrical grid: full blackout.” Her prediction rang true during the episode, as host Jon Stewart gave the comedian a nostalgic goodbye.

“Tonight marks the end of an era; the final show of the longest-serving member of The Best Fucking News Team, Samantha Bee,” Stewart says to open the above segment. “It all started back in 2003. The Bush presidency was entering its terrible twos; the Iraq War was just starting. We needed a correspondent. We looked in all the usual places: your liquor stores, your betting parlors, your methadone clinics. Obviously Google Maps was in its nascent stages; we took a wrong turn and ended up in Canada. And we found this delightful, incredibly funny person, Sam Bee.”

The host cues up a montage of Bee’s silliest moments. (“Sam is only the third correspondent to ever get her face stuck in a penis pump,” he says in a bit of “Daily Show trivia.”) But Stewart closes with a more substantive compilation of pieces that were “closest to [Bee’s] heart” – exploring topics like abortion, child tobacco labor and gender discrimination.

Stewart then brings out Bee, the show’s “Senior Senior Correspondent Correspondent,” for a tearful goodbye.

Bee won’t be away from television for long. In February, the comedian announced she and husband Jason Jones – who himself left The Daily Show in March – will executive produce a new scripted comedy for TBS. In addition, Bee and the network secured a deal for a second series, a satirical news show that she will host. A timetable for the projects has not been revealed.
