Watch Compelling New ‘Case of JonBenet Ramsey’ Docu-Series Trailer

Show reexamines 20-year-old unsolved murder

The first new trailer for CBS’ forthcoming docu-series The Case of JonBenét Ramsey launches immediately into the true-life events. It opens with real audio from the frantic 911 call placed by JonBenet’s mother Patsy, alerting the operator that her six-year-old pageant participant daughter was missing.

It’s a compelling way to draw the audience into the clip, mirroring how many were transfixed by the horrifying story while it unfolded in real time back in December 1996, when JonBenét was reported missing and kidnapped. Hours later, her father John reported finding his daughter beaten and strangled to death in the family’s Boulder, CO, basement. It was the day after Christmas.

During the trailer, the 911 operator reveals she had never been questioned by authorities. “In 20 years, nobody asked me,” she says through tears in the video. “I think I would’ve really turned the case around.”

Parents Patsy and John Ramsey, along with JonBenét’s then nine-year-old brother Burke, were all initially suspects, and they denied being involved in the murder. In 2008, the three were cleared via DNA taken from the victim’s clothing. Patsy succumbed to cancer in 2006.

Similar to the popular Making a Murderer and Serial shows, the docu-series looks to take a deep dive into the unsolved case through evidence and interviews. The Case of JonBenét Ramsey also brings together experts with original investigators to reexamine the case and seek out new information and leads. Among them are retired FBI agent and former prosecutor Jim Clemente, forensic scientists Drs. Henry Lee and Werner Spitz, and Scotland Yard’s Laura Richards. Together, they comb through new evidence, explore new theories, reexamine motives and speak to new witnesses and conduct new interviews, as shown in the clip.

As the first trailer unveils, the show has also recreated a full-scale model of the Ramsey’s home to try and solve the case utilizing “new experiments.”

JonBenét Ramsey’s murder is currently unsolved; no one has ever been charged. It remains to be seen what new light the docu-series will shed on the two-decades-old case.

The Case of JonBenét Ramsey premieres on September 18th on CBS.
