Watch Blue Jean Committee’s Sun-Soaked ‘Catalina Breeze’ Video

Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s faux soft-rock group from ‘Documentary Now!’ unearth vintage clip

Bill Hader and Fred Armisen’s faux Seventies soft-rock supergroup Blue Jean Committee was among the many highlights of the duo’s inaugural season of Documentary Now!. The episode that was so memorable that Hader and Armisen even recorded an EP, Catalina Breeze, under the moniker of the Kenny Loggins-approved California act. Although the two-part episode aired back in September, Blue Jean Committee seems eager to carry their legacy into 2016 thanks to a new video for their “hit” “Catalina Breeze.”

Much like the Documentary Now! episode itself – Gentle & Soft: The Story of the Blue Jean Committee – “Catalina Breeze” is shot on gloriously grainy Super 8 film, with Hader’s Clark Honus and Armisen’s Gene Allen performing their Steely Dan-inspired single in the studio amid stock footage of sunny California. Catalina Breeze is available to download now through Drag City; 12″ vinyl copies of the EP have sold out.

“I feel like the groups of the early Seventies were still trying to emulate the names of Sixties bands,” Armisen told Rolling Stone in September. “You had the fill-in-the-blank ‘organization,’ or the something-something ‘society.’ Committee seems to suggest something corporate, so it’d be such a hippie thing to be like” — Armisen adopts a righteous hippie voice — “‘Yeah, but like this committee is all about letting your hair down. There’s those other ones in, like, banks and stuff, but we’re the Blue Jean Committee!’ They’re not like those other corporations. They’re cool!
