After Trump acknowledges “the greatest year in the history of America” and the tax plan that “might me make a real billionaire,” Cicely Strong’s Melania Trump reminds the president its time to trim the Christmas tree.
“In the Christmas spirit, I wanted to thank all the amazing people who work for me,” Trump said. “But because I can’t help myself, we’re also going to remember all the haters and losers I destroyed this year. We’re gonna hang ornaments with their faces; we’re calling it the ‘Tree of Shame.'”
One by one, the cast of SNL‘s White House – including Beck Bennett’s Mike Pence, Aidy Bryant’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the Trump kids (Johansson, Alex Moffat and Mikey Day) and Leslie Jones as the now-ostracized Omarosa – hung a “loser” on the Christmas tree, including James Comey, Roy Moore and every now-former Trump White House employee, a long list that includes Sean Spicer, Anthony Scaramucci and Steve Bannon.
Kate McKinnon once again portrayed a pair of characters in Trump’s White House, first playing disillusioned advisor Kellyanne Conway before returning later in the sketch via special effects as Jeff Sessions’ Elf on the Shelf.
“I do not recall who’s been naughty and who’s been nice. I only recall a simpler time when you were judged not by the color of your skin but… wait, it was by the color of your skin,” Sessions said.
The cold open ended with the some Christmas music – The Apprentice‘s opening theme – and Omarosa begging for her job back. Leslie Jones would later return as Omarosa during the “Weekend Update”:
