The Walking Dead will take a new look at the zombie apocalypse with an upcoming companion series to the most watched drama on cable. AMC has tapped The Walking Dead comic book series creator Robert Kirkman and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert for the project, which is aiming for a 2015 launch, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

AMC president and general manager Charlie Collier said the story and characters will be “entirely new,” with a different view of the same zombie apocalypse. Kirkman expressed excitement over working on a series removed from the show’s source material of his comic books. “I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” Kirkman said in a statement. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

AMC has been making some big moves lately: Walking Dead star David Morrissey, who plays the Governor, will lead the network’s new pilot for Line of Sight. Morrissey will play Lewis Bent, a National Transportation Safety Board investigator and plane crash survivor who seeks the truth behind the mysterious accident. AMC has also landed a Breaking Bad prequel spinoff around crafty lawyer Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk; a premiere date for the series, titled Better Call Saul, has not yet been announced.

Season four of The Walking Dead premieres October 13th.
