Jerry Seinfeld confirmed on WFAN‘s “Boomer and Carton” show that the mystery project he shot recently with Jason Alexander and Larry David in New York City is, in fact, something of a Seinfeld reunion.
Seinfeld kept quiet on most major details during the interview, saying the project was neither a Super Bowl commercial nor an installment of his hit web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Then he added with a grin, “It is not not those things, either.”
The comedian elaborated somewhat, saying David was involved but was not filmed, other Seinfeld characters will appear in the project and that Alexander was reprising his role as George Costanza. When asked if Alexander was surprised to get the call, Seinfeld cracked, “No, he remembers that he played that character for many years. He was not surprised that he was asked to play George.”
The “short-ish form” film will premiere “very, very soon” too, though Seinfeld added it’s essentially a “one-and-done” project. He also said that the diner he and Alexander were spotted shooting at – Tom’s Restaurant, though it was dubbed Monk’s in Seinfeld – wasn’t the only place the project filmed, though Jerry’s apartment wasn’t one of the other locations.
Seinfeld recently alluded to a “big, huge, gigantic” project with David in a revealing Ask Me Anything chat on Reddit. “We never obsess over anything that isn’t mundane,” he wrote. “Most recent was intentional mumbling. We wrote this script for this thing that you will eventually see but I can’t reveal what it is at this time.”
