The haunting extended version of the 'Stranger Things' theme song is available to hear ahead of the arrival of 'Volume 2' of the show's soundtrack.

An extended version of the bewitching Stranger Things theme is now available to stream one day before the release of Volume 2 of the Netflix show’s soundtrack.

This iteration of the Stranger Things theme clocks in at just over five minutes and finds composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein building brilliantly upon the intro’s main motif. About halfway through, the track reaches a haunting peak, but, guided by its heartbeat kick, crawls to a sparse, chilling conclusion.

Stranger Things, Volume 2 arrives digitally tomorrow, August 19th, with a physical released planned for September 23rd. The digital version of Volume 1 was released last week, while its physical version drops September 16th.

Dixon and Stein were tapped to compose the score for Stranger Things because the show’s creators, brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, happened to be fans of their band Survive. The Duffers even used a song off the Austin synth act’s debut album in the concept trailer they pitched to Netflix.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dixon and Stein discussed the challenge of composing for TV. “We’d seen a little bit of the aesthetic they were going for,” Stein said. “But there weren’t scripts yet, there were just, like, these vague, kind of character descriptions. And to make scenes based on those ideas, you just had to … kind of imagine what that was and feel it out and send it over. And some of those things actually just locked in and like stayed very early on.”
