Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Prep Their Funerals in New ‘Portlandia’ Clip

Pair play two excited goths who can’t wait to meet their ultimate demise in the first look at the IFC show’s new season

Only Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein could make preparing for your ultimate, inevitable demise so charming. The pair play two goths planning for the most exciting event of their (after)lives in the first new clip from the upcoming fifth season of their hit sketch show Portlandia. “I was more looking forward to this than I was my birthday,” Brownstein says, her voice as dry as the white make-up caked on her face.

Amongst the duo’s exciting funeral plans: A midnight service in an old, decrepit church for Armisen, complete with distant shrieking and creaky old doors; Brownstein, however, wants to forgo the whole burial rigmarole and just have a pair of jackals drag her body out to a field where it can rot.

Portlandia will return to IFC in January 2015, but until then you can relive a number of Season Four’s best moments, including their NPR spoof and Brownstein’s hilarious crash-course in hip-hop history.

Armisen and Brownstein have both remained quite busy outside of Portlandia, particularly in the realms of music. While Armisen has been working tirelessly as the leader of the 8G band on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Brownstein recently reunited with her seminal 90s punk outfit, Sleater-Kinney.

The Olympia, Washington trio just released a career-spanning box set that included a new song, “Bury Our Friends,” which will also appear on their upcoming album, No Cities to Love. The album marks Sleater-Kinney’s first since 2005’s The Woods, and will see release on January 20th, 2015 via Sub Pop. The band will then play a string of dates in North America and Europe throughout February and March.
