Stephen Colbert dissected the latest allegations of sexual harassment against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on The Late Show Monday.
Colbert recounted the New Yorker‘s recent scoop, in which Deborah Ramirez accused Kavanaugh of drunkenly dangling his penis in front of her face during a college party. While Ramirez acknowledged that there were gaps in her memory because she had been drinking too, Colbert pointed out that the New Yorker learned of the story because Ramirez’s classmates started e-mailing about the incident when Kavanaugh was nominated in July. He then presented a phony sample of the thread, cracking, “Hey, remember that guy in college we called ‘The Floppy Bandit’? Turn on CNN.”
Colbert also mentioned the possible third Kavanuagh accuser, who’s being represented by Stormy Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenetti. While Avenetti has provided few details about his case and client, he released an e-mail that alleged Kavanaugh targeted women with drugs and alcohol in order to allow men to do things Colbert said were too horrible to say aloud on CBS. “And, may I remind you,” the host added, “this is the network that airs NCIS, voted ‘Most Corpses in Primetime.'”
Despite the mounting accusations against Kavanaugh, Republicans and President Donald Trump have stood by him. Kavanaugh has been trying to clear his name as well, and will reportedly give the Senate Judiciary Committee calendars from 1982 that do not show he attended a party where he allegedly groped Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
“He kept a calendar and we have obtained a copy,” Colbert deadpanned. “I believe it was the 1982 Alibi of the Day calendar. Who hangs on to their high school calendars? The only things I have left over from high school are deep emotional scars.”
