HBO offered its first full look at the upcoming season of their sci-fi drama Westworld Sunday during the Super Bowl LII. The Season Two preview also marked HBO's first Super Bowl ad in 20 years.
Soundtracked by a piano rendition of Kanye West's "Runaway," the Season Two trailer captures the mayhem spreading in Westworld as manmade bulls run from the virtual Wild West into the theme park's offices, wreaking havoc on the humans inside.
"Look at this world. This beautiful world. We built this world together. The world where dreams come true. A world where you can be free," Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores says in a voiceover over scenic images of Westworld before the action takes a dark turn. "But this world is a lie. This world deserves to die. Because this is your world. We've lived by your rules long enough. We can save this world. We can burn it to the ground and from the ashes build a new world."
The trailer also hints at which characters are returning – "hosts" played by Jeffrey Wright, Thandie Newton and Angela Sarafyan, as well as Ed Harris' Man in Black – as well as a terrifying, skeletal-looking new host working in league with Wright's Bernard. The trailer concludes with Dolores at the lead of a mysterious, well-armed gang with black fabric covering their faces.
Westworld, one of Rolling Stone's 30 Most Anticipated Shows of 2018, returns to HBO on April 22nd.
