Saturday Night Live spoofed dystopian series The Handmaid's Tale by criticizing hollow social protesting in a sketch with Chris Pine. The Wonder Woman actor played one of several hard-partying bros who are shocked – but only half-heartedly concerned – about the plight of their former "girl squad."
Like Elisabeth Moss in the acclaimed drama, these four women (Cecily Strong, Sasheer Zamata, Aidy Bryant, Vanessa Bayer) live with "no rights and no freedoms" and are "forced by an oppressive government to bear children under penalty of death."
After an unsettling intro, Pine and his pals stumble upon the quartet and learns the details of their horrific plight. Nonetheless, the actor is mostly pissed that the women "flaked" on his "Cinco de Mayo half-birthday." Upon learning the gravity of the situation, Pine and Mikey Day offer some backhanded words of wisdom: "You guys should, like, fight back."
