Zayn Malik will team up with Law & Order creator Dick Wolf and the producer’s wife Noelle Wolf for a new scripted NBC series titled Boys. The show will be based on Malik’s own experiences as a member of One Direction.

Sherri Cooper Landsman and Jennifer Levin have been tapped as the head writers for the series, which is being billed as a drama that will follow a boy band as they become hugely successful. According to Noelle Wolf, the show will feature original music and will be “totally integrated on broadcast and digital platforms.”

“Dick Wolf is a legend,” Malik said in a statement. “The opportunity to work with him and NBC to create a compelling drama series is awesome.”

Malik left One Direction in March 2015 after abruptly exiting the group’s world tour. That following summer, he had signed his solo recording deal. As a quartet, One Direction released their fifth album Made in the A.M. before declaring that they would go on hiatus. Malik released his debut solo album Mind of Mine — which features his Number One single “Pillowtalk” — on the one-year anniversary of the singer announcing his exit from the group.

Since the launch of One Direction’s hiatus, both Harry Styles and Liam Payne have signed solo recording deals. Styles has also plotted a film career and landed a starring role in Christopher Nolan’s World War I film Dunkirk. Louis Tomlinson has appeared as a guest judge on The X-Factor, the same show where the group had formed back in 2010. Tomlinson has also been reportedly working on launching a new, unnamed girl group with Cowell.
