Warner Bros. just added another superhero thoroughbred to its stable. The studio has confirmed they’re moving forward with the long-rumored Justice League movie, which will be directed by Zack Snyder, who helmed both Man of Steel and the upcoming (and tentatively titled) Superman vs. Batman

Greg Silverman, president of Warner’s worldwide production, confirmed the news to Wall Street Journal. “It will be a further expansion of this universe,” he says. “Superman vs. Batman will lead into Justice League.” But there’s no need to pre-order tickets just yet – the film’s script is still being developed, and Warner hasn’t commented on a possible release date. With the Superman/Batman film lined up for 2016, Justice League isn’t expected to hit theaters before 2018.

Some familiar faces are expected to reprise their earlier roles in the DC comics world: Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot (Batman and Wonder Woman, respectively, in Superman vs. Batman). While Silverman declined to offer further specifics about casting, WSJ notes that the studio recently started casting half-robot superhero Cyborg for a cameo in Superman vs. Batman and speculates that the character could also appear in Justice League

Silverman also emphasizes that the studio is also developing several other films based on other DC superheroes, along with crime and fantasy stories from the Vertigo comics. Sue Kroll, Warner’s president of worldwide marketing, adds that another goal is to pursue a Wonder Woman movie at some point in the not-too-distant future.

“That is our hope,” she says. “With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.”
