Watch Will Forte Parody Gregg Allman on ‘Fallon’
Will Forte sat in with the Roots on Friday’s Tonight Show under the guise of guitarist “Gregg Almond,” one-half of the famous Almond Brothers Band. “Not to be confused with the Allman Brothers Band, who as everyone knows are a bunch of thieving hacks who stole our careers,” Almond said.
Gregg formed the group with his identical cousin Randy Almond. “We bonded in high school over two things: Our love of good, old-fashioned American rock music, and a life-threatening allergy to nuts and legumes,” Almond told Jimmy Fallon without clarifying why they were the Almond Brothers and not the Almond Cousins.
However, because of their last name and despite their allergy, fans would show up at Almond Brothers concerts and throw “handfuls of roasted almonds at us, resulting in severe allergic reactions to the hands and face.” In order to stop the nut-throwing, the band titled their 1976 album Please Don’t Put Your Nuts on Us.
“The constant nut chucking became such a problem that we had to stop touring,” Almond told Fallon.
Gregg Almond visited Fallon in order to perform a tribute song to Randy, who died last year. “Oh cousin, I still miss your big sweet brown eyes / Though they were often swollen shut from handling pecan pies,” Almond sings. “I’ll never understand the reason why you passed away / But it must’ve been the double-decker PBJ.”
