Watch Wilco Unleash Rocker ‘Someone to Lose’ on ‘Colbert’
Wilco performed their new breezy bummer tune, “Someone to Lose” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Wednesday.
The Schmilco track opens with Jeff Tweedy singing delicately over a shuffling acoustic groove. By the chorus, the song turns to full-blown country rock with dueling riffs from Nels Cline and Pat Sansone.
Tweedy also appeared in two Late Show bits, including one where he rebuffed the critique that Wilco is lazy with their album titles (see: Schmilco, Star Wars and Wilco the Album) with a list of forthcoming LPs such as, Songs or Whatever and Meet the Beatles by Wilco and the concept album, Empty Coke Can.
The Wilco singer also tried jamming with Colbert in his Late Night dressing room (or as the host put it, “Crank it up and rip off the knob”). Tweedy was apprehensive after Colbert pulled out not one, but two, didgeridoos from his suit pocket. Despite an impressive solo, Colbert was unable to hold up his part of the duo.
