Watch Weezer Perform Epic Ballad ‘I Love the USA’ on ‘Corden’

Rivers Cuomo closes patriotic song with face-melting guitar heroics

Weezer gave a bombastic live rendition of their latest anthem “I Love the USA” on The Late Late Show With James Corden on Wednesday.

The alternative rock band released “I Love the USA” over the summer in honor of NASA’s Juno spacecraft, which successfully entered Jupiter’s orbit on July 4th, five years after its launch. The track is a fitting red, white and blue-blooded ballad and on The Late Late Show, Rivers Cuomo pounded away at a piano and belted his patriotic salvo, while the rest Weezer surrounded him. At the end of the song, Cuomo played an outrageous closing guitar solo, worthy of a Fourth of July fireworks display.

Earlier this month, Weezer released a music video for “I Love the USA,” featuring comedian Patton Oswalt decked out in American flag gear and lip-syncing the song in a replica of the Oval Office. Weezer included “I Love the USA” on the recently-released deluxe edition of their 2016 self-titled LP, dubbed the “White Album.” The digital-only version of the LP also included a pair of new songs – “Friend of a Friend” and “Fake Smiles and Nervous Laughter” – and a remix of album cut “Jacked Up” featuring Fitz and the Tantrums and Pussy Riot’s Nadya.
