Fourteen years after first playing Xander Cage in the 2002 action film XXX, Vin Diesel will return to the role of the tatted-up, James Bond-meets-X Games special agent in the upcoming XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
The blockbuster, due out January 20th, is the third installment in the XXX saga; Ice Cube starred in the 2005 sequel. What Diesel’s Fast and the Furious franchise did for muscle cars and insane stunts, these action flicks did for extreme sports: In the new film’s first trailer alone, Diesel is shown alpine skiing through a rain forest, skateboarding on the side of a car and driving a motocross bike through a tidal wave.
“Let me simplify it for you: Kick some ass and try to look dope while you’re doing it,” Samuel L Jackson’s NSA agent, who like Diesel is reprises his role from the original XXX, tells Cage in the trailer — a modus operandi that could also serves as the film’s tagline.
Joining the cast this time around is Ip Man martial arts master Donnie Yen, Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev, Ong-Bak combatant Tony Jaa, Indian starlet Deepika Padukone and breakout Orange Is the New Black star Ruby Rose, who proclaims in the preview, “Guns, girls, global domination: Xander Cage is back.”
