Watch ‘Seinfeld”s Elaine Confront Larry David’s Bernie Sanders on ‘SNL’

“I’ll go to the big banks, I’ll sit them down, and yada yada yada, they’ll be broken up,” David’s Vermont senator tells beloved ‘Seinfeld’ character

Saturday Night Live held a mini-Seinfeld reunion as host Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprised her beloved Elaine Benes character alongside series co-creator Larry David, who once again filled the role of Bernie Sanders on SNL.

In the cold open sketch, revolving around this week’s Democratic debate in Brooklyn, Elaine asks David’s Sanders just how exactly he plans on breaking up the big banks, to which the Vermont senator replies, “I’ll go to the big banks, I’ll sit them down, and yada yada yada, they’ll be broken up.”

“You can’t ‘yada, yada’ at a debate,” Benes fired back. While Louis-Dreyfus and David never shared screen time on Seinfeld – though they did appear together on Curb Your Enthusiasm – the vibe of that classic sitcom permeates throughout the cold open. At one point, Benes yells at Sanders, “You’re bald!,” a nod a memorable scene between the character and George Costanza, who was modeled after David.

(Benes also says to Hillary Clinton, “Doesn’t it suck to be the only girl in a group of guys? Don’t worry, because everyone thinks that you are, by far, the funniest…,” perhaps a nod to Elaine’s Number One placement on Rolling Stone‘s 100 Best Seinfeld Characters list.)

To keep the Must See TV nostalgia going, SNL‘s Vanessa Bayer also appeared as Friends‘ Rachel Green, originally played by Jennifer Aniston, during the debate sketch.
