Watch Romantic New Trailer for Warren Beatty’s ‘Rules Don’t Apply’
Young love blooms in old Hollywood between an aspiring Howard Hughes-contracted actress and her driver in the new trailer for Warren Beatty’s first movie in 18 years, Rules Don’t Apply.
Beatty wrote, directed and stars in Rules Don’t Apply, but in the new clip, he takes a backseat to Lily Collins and Alden Ehrenreich, who play aspiring star Marla Mabrey and chauffeur Frank Forbes. Beatty himself appears as the obsessive-compulsive billionaire Hughes, who inevitably finds himself in a love triangle with Mabrey and Forbes.
As the movie’s title suggests, much of the trailer finds Mabrey and Forbes breaking various rules, whether it’s Hughes’ strict policy forbidding relationships between employees, traditional Hollywood norms, Forbes’ engagement or Mabrey’s Baptist upbringing. “You do know why Baptists think sex is bad?” Matthew Broderick’s character asks Forbes. “Because it might lead to dancing.”
Rules Don’t Apply also stars Alec Baldwin, Haley Bennett, Annette Bening, Martin Sheen, Steve Coogan, Ed Harris, Candice Bergen and Oliver Platt. The movie marks Beatty’s first directorial effort since 1998’s Bulworth, while he hasn’t appeared in a feature film since 2001’s Town and Country.
Rules Don’t Apply will open in theater on November 23rd.
