Watch Netflix’s Eerie, Moody ‘Daredevil’ Teaser
The first preview of Netflix’s upcoming Daredevil series hints at a downbeat, dramatic future for Marvel’s blind crimefighter Matt Murdock. The teaser opens with the character (played by Charlie Cox) in a church confessional, his face shrouded in darkness. “I’m not seeking forgiveness for what I’ve done, Father,” Murdock intones. “I’m asking forgiveness for what I’m about to do.”
While the clip is light on details, it does offer glimpses of Daredevil‘s supporting cast, including Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. It also establishes an eerie visual vibe, blending shots of bloodied bodies, shattered glass and a New York cityscape shrouded in shadows. “I’ve been preoccupied of late with questions of morality – of right and wrong, good and evil,” Murdock says, emphasizing he’s “just trying to make (his) city a better place.”
All 13 episodes of Daredevil will premiere April 10th on Netflix. The series, an extension of the vast Marvel Universe, was developed by veteran fantasy/sci-fi writer-director Drew Goddard (Lost, Cloverfield), who will write and direct at least the first episode.
In the original comics, Murdock is blinded at age 12 by a radioactive substance that, conversely, heightens his other senses beyond normal human levels. After his father, boxer Jack Murdock, is killed by gangsters, the superhero seeks revenge as Daredevil, nicknamed “The Man Without Fear.”
This Netflix adaptation will mark the first installment of Marvel’s Defenders franchise, which also includes individual series focused on Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. All four characters will eventually unite for the Defenders mini-series.
