Watch Mysterious First Look at New Season of ‘Twin Peaks’

Showtime unveils a brief glimpse behind the scenes of David Lynch’s long-awaited revival

It’s been almost 25 years since the last new episode of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks, but the iconic murder-mystery series will finally return to television 2017. The long-awaited third season has only just started production, and it’s still unknown if the revival will dig back into the murder of Laura Palmer or dig into a new case. But Showtime gave fans an early Christmas present on Friday when the premium cable network released an appropriately enigmatic look behind the scenes.

The teaser begins with some gorgeous new looks at the show’s Pacific Northwest setting (likely stock footage or B-roll) as a member of the crew waxes poetic about the unique location. “There’s a lot of holy places up here,” the man says. “I can’t put my finger on how I would describe it. It just touches something in the psyche.” The money shot comes as the show’s theme song begins to build in the background and the tarp is pulled off television’s most familiar road sign: “Welcome to Twin Peaks. Population 51,201.”

The third season of Twin Peaks will air on Showtime in 2017. Lynch will direct all of the new episodes, and much of the show’s original cast — including stars Kyle MacLachlan and Sherilyn Fenn — are scheduled to reprise their roles.
