Watch Morris Day and Haim Team Up for ‘Jungle Love’ on ‘Kimmel’
Although Haim lost out to Sam Smith for the Best New Artist Grammy, the three sisters can now brag that they’ve accomplished something that Smith hasn’t: Performing alongside Morris Day and the Time.
Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s Mash Up Mondays, where the late night host combines two acts to form one unlikely collaboration, continued Monday night as the two artists involved were rebranded Morris Day and the Haim.
Even though Morris Day & The Haim share amusing equal billing, the “Jungle Love” performance was still very much a frontman/backing band situation, with the yellow-suited Purple Rain star firmly in the spotlight. Haim’s contribution add up to little more than swaying back and forth and singing the “O-E-O-E-Os” during the “Jungle Love” chorus, although bassist Este Haim does take center stage during the bridge as she and Day strut the track’s trademark dance moves. Day, the consummate showman, still delivers an energetic rendition of a timeless — and, given the emergence of “Uptown Funk,” influential — classic.
Kimmel’s Mash Up Mondays kicked off February 2nd with Weezer and ZZ Top – dubbed Wee-Z Top – playing the bearded troupe’s “Sharp-Dressed Man.” Soul singer Aloe Blacc and new jack swingers Blackstreet will perform next Monday as, surprise, Aloe Blaccstreet. The month-long series will conclude February 23rd with two as-yet-unannounced artists.
