With the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28th, Jimmy Kimmel Live! hit the streets to grill strangers’ fake movie knowledge in a hilarious “Oscars Edition” of “Lie Witness News.” The premise is simple: stick a camera and microphone in front of people’s faces, ask them about absurd, non-existent film moments from the past year and watch them feign knowledge in an attempt to gain cool points.
The first person admits to loving Citizen Kane 2 and doesn’t blame the title’s lack of nominations on the lead performance of Kevin James (of Paul Blart: Mall Cop fame). Elsewhere, people praise the “fierce” atmosphere of Tom Cruise-starring Little Man, Big Motorcycle and Jennifer Lawrence’s “unpredictable yet very moving” choice to star in 19-Year-Old Mother of Four.
From there, the selections grow even weirder – from Sir Ian McKellan in Vampire Dog to Channing Tatum’s starring role in Koala Cop – but that doesn’t prevent anyone from lying through their teeth.
