Watch Jon Stewart Urge Media to Dump Trump on ‘Colbert’

Former ‘Daily Show’ host encourages press to get over breakup with president, find new hobbies like journalism

Jon Stewart tunneled from his farm to Stephen Colbert‘s desk where he encouraged the media to get over its breakup with President Trump on The Late Show Monday.

Stewart spoke about the President’s contentious relationship with the press, from attacks on specific news outlets like CNN and Buzzfeed, to outright lying. “Nobody says ‘believe me’ unless they are lying,” Stewart said. But Stewart also urged the media stop hanging on Trump’s every falsehood and attack, and insisted it was time for the press to “get its groove back.”

“Let’s face facts,” said Stewart to the media, at large. “You kind of let yourself go a little bit these past few years, put on a few pundits, obsessing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, about this one guy: ‘What’s Donnie up to? Did he say anything about us? You think he’s gonna come on our show?'”

Stewart reminded the media that it may hurt to see their ex “swiping far right” but that doesn’t mean the breakup isn’t a chance for self-reflection and improvement. “Take up a hobby,” Stewart suggested. “I recommend journalism!” When Colbert asked Stewart if he truly believed the media would take this opportunity to reflect and get better at their jobs, the former Daily Show host cracked: “I really do – believe me.”
