Like a drunk uncle on the dance floor at a wedding, Harry Connick, Jr. is the gift that keeps on giving on this season of American Idol. But while he’s a talented singer who’s brought a much-needed sense of levity to the judges’ table, one thing he most certainly is not is a dancer.

When 20-year-old contestant C.J. Jones jokingly told the new judge to “get over here” before singing “Stand By Me” during the final audition episode, Connick gamely obeyed orders. “I like that spirit, man. I like the way you didn’t even think about the consequences,” Connick quipped as he took a spot next to the Idol hopeful.

As the song kicked in, the jazz singer/actor couldn’t contain himself and started busting a move – a bad one at that. After snapping his fingers and swiveling his hips a few times, Connick got thrown off when C.J. “skipped a beat” and quickly reverted to doing a dorky “white guy” dance, complete with the staple ’80s robot arm.
