Watch ‘Game of Thrones’ Creators ‘Apologize’ for Hodor

Following Sunday’s heartbreaking episode, D.B. Weiss, David Benioff offer “our bad” on ‘Kimmel’ for future annoyances of “hold the door”

Game of Thrones creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff never apologize for killing off main characters – and they haven’t changed course after Sunday’s episode, “The Door,” which included the tragic, poetic demise of Hodor. But the producers are sorry for a different reason: Now that they’ve revealed the meaning behind the fan-favorite character’s name (The gentle giant needing to “Hold the door” to save Bran Stark), annoying people are going to make “Hodor” an immortal catchphrase at doors and elevators.

Sitting on a couch littered with cash, Weiss and Benioff issued their heartfelt statement. “We’d like to apologize for Sunday’s episode,” they said. “Not for killing Hodor – we kill a lot of main characters. We’ve killed 739 main characters so far. We’re sorry for all the idiots who, from now on, will be shouting ‘Hodor’ every time you go through a door. We forgot how annoying people can be. That’s our bad. We should have seen that coming. Again, so, so sorry. People are the worst.”

“We can kill people in real life, too,” a brooding Benioff continued, foreshadowing his own slaying. No one is safe on Game of Thrones – even the creative team.
