Watch Donald Glover in Montage-Styled New ‘Atlanta’ Trailer
UPDATE: FX has renewed Donald Glover’s Atlanta for a ten-episode Second Season, Deadline reports. While the network typically waits for more detailed viewership data before making such decisions, Atlanta has been both a critical success and a massive ratings draw. The show earned the best ratings for a basic cable comedy premiere in three years among the 18 to 49-year-old demographic, and has continued to improve its numbers each week. Atlanta airs its fourth episode tonight, September 20th.
FX has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming Atlanta series, which stars its creator Donald Glover, aka rapper Childish Gambino.
Four times longer than its first full trailer, the new clip, entitled “Inhale Atlanta,” is more of a montage than the storytelling approach of the first one. It’s shown in split screen, where various scenes play simultaneously. It opens with Glover, who portrays the manager of his rapping cousin Paperboy, in bed with a woman. “I had a weird dream,” he tells her when asked why he’s up so early.
Some of the series of scenes that follow are played backwards with the audio reversed as well, and others seemingly play in normal time. It’s unclear if the video’s timeline is also jumbled, which gives the trailer a bit of a discombobulating vibe. The clip also features a cameo from Atlanta rap group Migos.
The 10-episode series also stars Keith Stanfield, who played the role of Snoop Dogg in Straight Outta Compton, and actress Zazie Beetz.
FX’s Atlanta premieres on September 6th.
