Watch ‘Difficult People’ Star Julie Klausner on ‘Fictional Characters I Hate’

Comedian rips into everyone from Holly Golightly to Kate Hudson in ‘Almost Famous’: “Every time she’s onscreen, I want to kill myself”

The second season of Julie Klausner’s blisteringly funny sitcom Difficult People is now in full swing on Hulu, in which Klausner and partner-in-crime Billy Eichner portray lightly fictionalized versions of themselves as they struggle to land a date, a showbiz connection, or just a quick payday. And in this exclusive video interview with Rolling Stone, the comedian uses her talent for cutting putdowns to call out four purely fictional figures she hates.

She starts in on Denis Leary’s character on the FX comedy series Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, not letting herself be deterred by a lack of familiarity with the material: “I haven’t seen the show,” Klausner says. “I [just] hate him because his name is Johnny Rock.”

Her next target is insufferable Upper East Sider Holly Golightly, as portrayed by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. (Klausner has no beef with the actress, mind you — she’s just out for Golightly.) Her only sin greater than inspiring a wave of psuedo-quirky Manhattanite ladies is her negligent cat ownership: “Who lets their cat out of a cab in the rain? A psychopath,” she says. “If you ever treat a cat like that, you should go to death row.”

After dispensing some much-needed fashion advice for comic-strip office drone Dilbert (“Don’t dress like that, it’s horrible”) she turns on Kate Hudson’s manic pixie dream groupie Penny Lane from Almost Famous. “Every time she’s on screen, I want to kill myself.”
