Watch Courtney Barnett Rock Out on ‘SNL’ Finale

Australian singer-songwriter performs “Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party” and “Pedestrian at Best” to close out Season 41

Over a year after Courtney Barnett released her critically acclaimed debut Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, the Australian rocker had one last stop on her victory tour as she and her band served as musical guests on the Season 41 finale of Saturday Night Live.

Barnett played two tracks off her 2015 LP, first setting the tone and introducing herself to what was probably the largest American TV audience of her career with the infectious, humorous “Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party.” Later, she and her band delivered a boisterous take on “Pedestrian at Best.”

Following the SNL gig, Barnett heads down to the Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama for a performance there Sunday.

Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, Number Six on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 50 Best Albums of 2015, helped score Barnett a Best New Artist nomination at the 2016 Grammys; Meghan Trainor took home the award. Since the release of her debut LP, Barnett has performed high-profile gigs at Bonnaroo and Coachella, recorded with Jack White at Third Man Studios and released a one-off single, the Ramen-inspired “Three Packs a Day.”

In March, Barnett told Rolling Stone, “I might make a record this year, or it might take me fucking forever. I take a really long time to make decisions.”

“I actually wrote a list of ongoing songs yesterday, because I tend to just start something and then kind of forget about it and move on. Then all my books are really messy and stuff,” Barnett added. “So yesterday, I went through it because lately I’ve been like, ‘I’ve got no songs!’ I looked at this list of songs, but they’re all so different. There’s one that’s really dark, kind of like ‘Kim’s Caravan’ on the album, and big Crazy Horse-type songs. So just fuckin’ don’t know. There’s everything.”
