Watch Adele, Fallon, Roots Sing ‘Hello’ With Classroom Instruments
Adele‘s “Hello,” a chart-topping ballad from her record-breaking new LP, 25, is already one of her most intimate singles. But the singer achieves a new level of intimacy with this Tonight Show rendition of the poignant track, backed by Jimmy Fallon and the Roots on classroom instruments.
Crammed into a small space, the supergroup fleshes out Adele’s croon with melodica, tambourine, wood block, toy xylophone, bongos, a banana shaker and kazoos. Joining in on the silliness, the singer fakes a cell phone call, channeling the long-distance melancholy of the lyrics.
During her eventful Tonight Show appearance on Monday, Adele also belted another 25 track, the soulful “Water Under the Bridge” (in regular, non-classroom form), chatted with Fallon about her recent SNL appearance and the massive anticipation behind her new album and joined the host for the game “Box of Lies,” where the duo attempted to trick each other about the bizarre contents of their containers.
