Tom Clancy’s Legacy Lives on in ‘Jack Ryan’ Trailer

Jack Ryan is back after an 11-year break from the big screen, as Tom Clancy’s CIA operative returns this Christmas in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. Star Trek: Into Darkness star Chris Pine plays Ryan in this reboot of the series, succeeding previous Ryan actors Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

In the story – an original by Clancy, who died earlier this week – Ryan kicks off his career after 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan. He’s tasked with stopping a villainous Russian, played by Kenneth Branagh, from carrying out a terrorist attack to cripple the U.S. economy. Keira Knightly plays Ryan’s love, Cathy, while Kevin Costner plays Williams Harper, Ryan’s handler. Ryan eludes relentless covert forces, consults with Harper and opens up to Cathy about his real job. But, as Harper warns, “Sometimes the ones closest to us are the ones we should trust the least.”
