Terrifying New ‘It’ Trailer Sees Losers’ Club Journey Into Sewers

Latest look at upcoming Stephen King adaptation hints at horrors below Derry, Maine

A pack of adventurous adolescents confront the terror awaiting them in the Derry, Maine sewers in the latest look at It, the long-awaited adaptation of the Stephen King novel about the murderous clown Pennywise.

Following its record-breaking first trailer, a second teaser for the horror film debuted Sunday during the MTV Movie and TV Awards, with the new preview showcasing a snippet of the film where the “Losers’ Club,” the gang of misfits at the heart of King’s novel, search for Pennywise’s many victims.

The scene initially seems similar to Stand By Me, another King story, with the Losers’ Club playfully bantering about “gray water” – “It’s basically piss and shit” – before discovering a shoe belonging to Betty Ripson, the victim of one of the novel’s most gruesome deaths.

After finding the shoe, a lone red balloon meanders down the sewers before it pops, terrifying the boys and the viewer. A series of scary images soon follow before the trailer ends on Pennywise doing unimaginable balloon tricks to lure a victim.

It opens September 17th. The film is one of many King projects hitting big and small screens in 2017, including a cinematic adaptation of the author’s The Dark Tower, a Spike series based on The Mist, the secretive J.J. Abrams-produced anthology series Castle Rock and a show based on King’s detective novel Mr. Mercedes.
