‘Sons of Anarchy’ Creator’s New Show Starts Filming in March

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter will start filming his new historical drama for FX, The Bastard Executioner, in March, the International Business Times reports.
The show will film on location in Wales, where Sutter was recently location scouting and posting a few pictures to Instagram of medieval castles like Caerphilly Castle in the southern part of the country.
The Bastard Executioner centers around a knight who leaves King Edward III’s army after witnessing the devastation of war. But when he’s once again confronted with violence, he’s forced pick up his sword as an executioner.
No word yet on who will play the titular executioner, but as Deadline reported last fall, the show will feature Sons of Anarchy star, and Sutter’s wife, Katey Sagal, though nothing is known about her role. No other casting decisions for the show have been announced, though Sutter’s SOA cohort Paris Barclay has signed on to direct and executive produce the pilot.
Last year, FX president John Landgraf — speaking to Rolling Stone for a story on Sons of Anarchy’s storied seven-season run — described The Bastard Executioner as, “Ultimately, just like Sons of Anarchy, it’s got a very strong Shakespearean journey in the center of it.”
While Sutter recently turned in the pilot script for The Bastard Executioner, he admitted to Rolling Stone he was nervous about the possibility of finally having some downtime. “When I’m not writing, I don’t quite know who I am,” Sutter said. “I’m lost a little bit. It’s like, what am I? Who am I? What am I doing? I don’t do well. Idle hands and all. I’m a little bit fucked up. But it’s part of my charm.”
