Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren returned to Undercover Boss during the actor’s latest Saturday Night Live hosting gig, which featured a sequel to Driver’s viral 2016 Star Wars-Undercover Boss crossover sketch.
Unlike the skit from four years ago, which saw him portray Kylo Ren in disguise as a radar technician named Matt at Starkiller Base, this “Undercover Boss” edition was a check-in on how Kylo Ren was doing five years later.
This time around, Kylo Ren took on the disguise of Randy, “an entry-level intern.” “I’ll say it: I haven’t been the best boss lately,” Kylo said. “I’ve been a little distracted by some personal drama.”
A voiceover addressed the drama head-on: “Days after appearing on our show, Kylo killed his dad, cut his mentor in half, fired upon his mother’s spacecraft and is now obsessed with finding a young Jedi named Rey.”
Upon appearing on the spacecraft, Kylo stoically says “OK boomer” to try and assimilate, but ultimately his true personality shows when he asks if Rey would take his hand for the second time if he offered it.
As Randy, Kylo struggles to get the right drink orders, breaks printers and kills an admiral with solely a look. It’s not long before the employees discover that Randy is actually Kylo.
Later, Kylo gets invited to drinks with the other interns where one, portrayed by a crying Chloe Fineman, expresses her desire to be promoted to the undercover villain. “I applied to be a fighter pilot, but the director was like, ‘The only way for a woman to be fly cockpit is a direct order from Kylo Ren,” she said.
Ultimately their conversation works and Kylo tells the camera, “The culture here needs to change. Everybody deserves a shot. If I can be a small part of that change, I will.” Unfortunately his goodwill is short-lived because when the intern reveals she wants to fly like Luke Skywalker and not Kylo. He then kills her with the last words: “And now you’ll die like him, too. OK boomer?”
Despite the harsh ending, Kylo remains optimistic by the end of the social experiment: “I made four new friends and only killed one of them. I’d say that’s a pretty good start.”
