See John Oliver Criticize Donald Trump’s ‘Cruel’ Travel Ban
John Oliver criticized Donald Trump‘s “cruel” and “unnecessary” travel ban Sunday on Last Week Tonight.
While the media was rightfully outraged (and distracted) by Trump’s misogynistic tweets aimed at MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski, the Supreme Court ruled that parts of Trump’s Muslim travel ban could go into effect starting Thursday.
“The administration has long maintained is not a ban despite what you may have heard from biased mainstream media outlooks like the President of the United States and a dictionary,” Oliver said, with the Supreme Court deciding the ban doesn’t apply to those traveling with a “bona fide relationship” to someone in America.
The administration later defined “bona fide relationship” as “close family,” an umbrella term that covers parents, spouses, children, siblings and in-laws but not grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles and more.
“This ban is cruel, it’s unnecessary, and it undermines our standing in the world,” Oliver said. “So you would think the president would be justifying its existence; instead he keeps derailing the conversation with his barrage of bullshit.”
