See Fred Armisen, Bill Hader Debut Talking Heads Parody Band
Bill Hader and Fred Armisen return to satirize some of cinema’s greatest non-fiction feature films in the second season of their IFC series Documentary Now! During the show’s second season, which premieres Wednesday, one of Hader and Armisen’s victims is the Talking Heads’ 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense. For the episode, the former SNL co-stars invented a very Heads-esque band called Test Pattern, which made their live debut Tuesday on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
For the unique performance, the “iconic art-rock band from Connecticut via the Lower East Side,” as Meyers called Test Pattern during their introduction, played their track “Art + Student = Poor,” a jittery Talking Heads parody that wouldn’t sound out of place on that band’s debut Talking Heads: 77.
This isn’t the first time Hader and Armisen have formed a band in the name of mockumentary: For season one, the duo concocted Blue Jean Committee, an Eagles-inspired soft-rock troupe that even released their own EP, Catalina Breeze.
