Watch Samantha Bee Slam Kavanaugh Sexual Assault Allegation Spin

“I can’t believe this needs saying, but it’s never ok to rape somebody, not even in high school,” quips ‘Full Frontal’ host

Samantha Bee dissected the hypocrisy and spin surrounding the coverage of the sexual assault allegations that have upended the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Full Frontal Wednesday.

On Sunday, Christine Blasey Ford, came forward and accused Kavanaugh of drunkenly pinning her to a bed and groping her during a house party when they were both in high school. As Bee pointed out, Kavanaugh’s defenders have taken to arguing that the judge essentially shouldn’t be judged for something that allegedly happened in high school.

“I can’t believe this needs saying,” Bee retorted, “but it’s never ok to rape somebody, not even in high school.” The host then offered a helpful Dr. Seuss-esque rhyme to remember her advice, cracking, “You must not rape folks on a boat, you must not rape folks in a moat. You may not, must not after dinner, you cannot even if you’re a good swimmer. You must not rape a woman or man, you can quote me, Sam I am.”

Bee noted that the allegations against Kavanaugh offer a window into a certain kind of privileged childhood that isn’t supposed to come with consequences (she showed a widely circulated clip of Kavanaugh quipping at a speech, “What happens at Georgetown Prep, stays at Georgetown Prep”). But the Full Frontal host pointed out the obvious: Kavanaugh is up for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court and will be making decisions that affect women’s bodies for generations.

“Of course if he assaulted someone when he was 17 and lied about it it should impact him for the rest of his lifeit sure as hell impacted hers,” Bee said. She then added, “It’s been 27 years since Anita Hill, can we please try to be less horrendous about it this time? We’ve had enough of these Nineties reboots – we’re good.”
