Watch Samantha Bee Close Out Midterms With Simple Message: ‘Vote, Dummies’
Samantha Bee attempted to cut through the “phantasmagoria of lies and racism and scare-mongering” that’s dominated the 2018 midterm election cycle – as well as the last two years – and encourage viewers to vote on Full Frontal Monday.
Bee opened her show with a segment that touched on some of the biggest congressional and gubernatorial races in the country. She also called out President Trump for “whipping up a racist frenzy” during the final days of the campaign, cracking, “Trump is like a magician who distracts from the card up his sleeve by actually sawing a woman in half.”
Among the big races Bee touched on was the Georgia gubernatorial contest, where Republican candidate, and current Secretary of State, Brian Kemp has been frequently accused of voter suppression. Most recently, Kemp’s office tried to deflect and accuse Georgia Democrats of attempting to hack a voter database, though he provided no evidence. “Dude, a judge ruled against you last week over your attempted voter suppression,” Bee said. “This is like if a Harlem Globetrotter tried to call a foul on a Washington General – man, you are on a ladder!”
Elsewhere, Bee reserved kind words for embattled North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp, who’s at risk of losing her job after she voted not to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The Full Frontal host also checked in on the Arizona Senate race, where Republican candidate Martha McSally has built a reputation for cringe-worthy performances of the National Anthem as well as lying about her attempts to repeal Obamacare.
Bee closed her segment with one last impassioned plea to voters, saying, “You are all like elite marathon runners but for horrifying rage. You’ve been training at altitude for two years, now it’s time to do the thing.”
