Roy Orbison Singer performs gorgeous ‘Only the Lonely’ in 1965

Legacy Recordings is celebrating the 75th birthday of the late Roy Orbison with The Monument Singles Collection (1960-64). This new CD/DVD set – in stores now – features the original mono mixes of the rock balladeer's early singles, along with a nine-song concert filmed in 1965. This version of Orbison's classic "Only the Lonely" is taken from that DVD, and it's quite stunning in its simplicity. Unlike modern live footage, which tends to jump around between multiple perspectives, the camera lingers on one shot for a while, encouraging the viewer to focus attention entirely on Orbison's gorgeous, haunting voice.
