See Robert De Niro’s Robert Mueller Visit Trump Brothers in ‘SNL’ Cold Open

“Them Trumps” sketch and “Weekend Update” also pile on Trump White House’s bad week

On the heels of a bad week at the Trump White House, Saturday Night Live teased the president with a pair of sketches, including a cold open that seized on the Special Counsel’s damning documents against Donald Trump.

In the sketch, Alex Moffat’s dim-witted Eric Trump is scared to go to sleep because of what’s going on in the news and the boogeyman in his closet. “I heard they’re going to indict you,” Eric tells Mikey Day’s Donald Trump Jr. before defining the word, “Indict: there’s no sugar indict Coke.”

Donald Trump Jr. opens the closet to prove that there’s no boogeyman, but instead Eric spots Robert Mueller standing in there, with Robert De Niro reprising the role. After Don Jr. leaves the room, De Niro’s Mueller sits bedside next to Eric.

“Don’t be scared. It’s just me, Robert Mueller, your dad’s friend from work,” he tells Eric. Mueller then talks about all of Trump’s associates that have struck deals with the investigation, including Paul “Pillowfort” (Manafort) and George “Papa John’s Pizza” (Papadopoulos).

“Eric, I just came here to let you know that no matter what happens, America will be just fine,” the actor’s Mueller said, frequently stumbling on the cue cards. “This is a country full of good people.”

“Good people like my dad,” Eric chimes in. “Mr. Mueller, people say you’re the worst thing to happen to my dad.”

Mueller retorted, “No Eric, getting elected president was the worst thing that ever happened to your dad.”

Later in the episode, SNL presented a “reimagining” of the Trump White House as Kenan Thompson starred as “Darius Trump” in Them Trumps, a series from the producers behind Empire:

Weekend Update also examined the latest chapter in the Mueller investigation:
