Preview the David Letterman Primetime Farewell Special

Ray Romano hosts a look back at the late night host’s greatest moments, guests, Top Ten lists and stupid pet tricks

Just over two weeks remain in David Letterman‘s Late Show tenure, and while those final shows promise an army of famous guests, CBS will also pay tribute to the longtime host’s 32 years in late night with David Letterman: A Life on Television. In this first look at the primetime special, relive many of Letterman’s best moments in two minutes, from stupid pet tricks and Top 10 lists to Drew Barrymore’s flashing and Paul McCartney’s rooftop concert.

Actor Ray Romano – who scored Everybody Loves Raymond following his Late Show appearance in 1995; Letterman’s Worldwide Pants produced the long-running sitcom – will serve as host on the 90-minute farewell special, which airs May 4th at 9:30 p.m. EST. The clips featured on the show will range from Bill Murray serving as Letterman’s first guest to when the host revealed he underwent quadruple bypass surgery in a poignant but hilarious monologue.

Letterman’s last Late Show will air May 20th. The program previously revealed just some of the guests that will sit on his couch one final time, including George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Howard Stern, Will Ferrell, Tom Hanks and many more. Tom Waits and Dave Matthews Band are among Letterman’s final musical guests. (Dave Matthews Band, making their 13th Late Show appearance, will also take part in a Legends on Letterman performance on May 7th.

In addition to the A Life on Television tribute, the Late Show‘s official YouTube also shared a video that collects many of Letterman’s funniest moments with guests culled from his 22 years as host (including his infamous interview with Joaquin Phoenix).
