MTV: ‘Snooki & JWoww’ Is a ‘New Way to Look at Pregnancy’

According to the Los Angeles Times, MTV executives feel quite confident about their Jersey Shore spinoff, Snooki & JWoww, and its ability to attract viewers despite Snooki’s pregnancy. The show originally hoped to capitalize on the titular stars’ wild antics, which usually involve large amounts of alcohol; however, after Snooki announced her pregnancy and engagement to boyfriend Jionni LaValle, it seemed the curveball might turn the network’s prized show into a dud. Still, MTV President Stephen Friedman has high hopes for surprising viewers with a show that’s still fun and engaging.
“It’s a very different show. It isn’t two single pals living in Jersey City anymore,” said Friedman. “You’re going to see a very different side to both women, not just Snooki but [JWoww], who has a real maternal side. It’s a whole new way to look at pregnancy.”
Friedman also confirmed that the upcoming sixth season of Jersey Shore will see a serious reworking. With Snooki’s pregnancy and a recent rehab stint by Michael “the Situation” Sorrentino, the Shore was unlikely to continue as the booze-fueled perpetual party from earlier seasons. “It will be a very different show with Snooki pregnant and Mike sober,” revealed Friedman. “And Snooki isn’t going anywhere near the smush room.”
Snooki & JWoww premieres June 21st on MTV.
