Miguel’s ‘Girls’ Track Finds Him Searching for ‘Simplethings’

Miguel just wants the simple things in love: someone real, someone true, someone to laugh with and, mostly, someone to smoke with. The R&B singer shared his feelings in new song “Simplethings,” the latest track from the second soundtrack to Girls.
Miguel Picks His Five Favorite Songs, from Funkadelic to Queen
On the three-minute track, Miguel sings over warm, buzzy guitars and bassy rhythms about what a man and a woman want (and don’t want) in a relationship. The woman does not want a model, a movie star or someone who’s won the lotto – so basically a majority of average men.
Luckily for the woman in the song, and the majority of the world’s male population, Miguel is also not looking for a model or a debutante. So, in summary, Miguel and the woman in the song are perfectly compatible since they both want someone to smoke, laugh and lay with. If only things were so easy for the women of Girls.
The show’s music supervisor, Manish Raval, told Radio.com in January that the show’s creator, Lena Dunham, specially requested the song. “Very early on in the process Lena said, ‘Can we just call him and see if he’ll do something?'” Raval said. “We did, he said yes. It was very easy.”
The soundtrack for season two, Girls Volume 2: All Adventurous Women Do. . ., is set for release on February 11th.
