Netflix has released the first look at Becoming, an original documentary that follows former First Lady Michelle Obama on a 34-city tour around the country. The film premieres May 6th on the streaming platform.
The 2019 tour sees her meeting with community and youth groups across the U.S., answering questions about her life following her husband Barack Obama’s time in the White House and giving life advice to the next generation. In the clip, a young woman asks Michelle how she managed to get her life “back on track” following her husband’s presidency.
“What I’ve learned is that, get back on what track?” Obama says. “It’s a whole new track. It’s not going back, it’s just all different, and it’s different forever. So it’s not getting back on track, but it’s creating my next track. I’m doing what you’re doing — I’m figuring out, ‘What do I want to do, what do I care about?’ And it takes time to process your life and figure out what it all means. So little of who I am happened in those eight years. So much more of who I was happened before.”
Becoming is directed by Nadia Hallgren, and produced by Katy Chevigny, Marilyn Ness, and Lauren Cioffi.
