Michael Bay in Talks to Direct ‘Hunting El Chapo’ Movie

Michael Bay is in discussions with Sony Pictures to either direct or produce a film adaptation of Hunting El Chapo, an upcoming book about the Mexican drug cartel leader, Variety reports. Bay is currently in post-production on the fifth installment of the Transformers series, The Last Knight, which is out June 23rd.
Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling Inside Story of the American Lawman Who Captures the World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord, out October 3rd, chronicles the manhunt for the infamous drug lord. “El Chapo,” real name Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, evaded authorities for over a decade before his capture and extradition last year to the United States.
Cole Merrell, a pseudonym for the DEA official who tracked the near-mythic drug kingpin for eight years, co-wrote the book with Douglas Century.
In addition to the forthcoming movie, a new scripted drama series about El Chapo’s life, co-developed by Netflix, will premiere on Univision in April.
